Santiago Picatoste

He studied Fine Arts in the Escuela Libre del Mediterráneo in Palma de Mallorca. He received the Grant of Artes Gráficas from the Fundación Pilar y Joan Miró in Palma de Mallorca, the Grant of Artes Plásticas from La Casa de Velázquez Madrid.

He won the first Award of Painting of Ibeart from the Museum ABC in Madrid, Finalist in the Premios Generación, from La Casa Encendida, Madrid,  Honorific Mention International Sculpture Award, The Gabarron Foundation E.E.U.U., he designed the Women Together Awards for the United Nations in N.Y., he participated in the Internationel Exhibition Esculture Grande Praga, in Praga, Czech Republic.

His work is in different collections of international relevance like, the most recently, in Giorgio Cini Foundation, Venice, Luxury Collection, Milano, Fundación La Caixa, Barcelona, Flingthon Collection, Copenhagen, Foundazione Golinelli, Bologne, CAC, Málaga y Colección Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid.

Up to now he has participated in 29 solo show and more than 90 group show.

In this moment he is very interested in the development of his research focusses, on a chromatic level, on the psychology of color. His creative process is based on alchemy and investigation with the translucent media he uses, attributed to the industrial field (methacrylate, glass), in equilibrium with traditional materials (oils and acrylics).

The end result brings him closer to the idea of the “crystallization” of painting.

His style or references comes from the new post-pictorial abstraction.
